Cryptic City VIII
This past weekend, I was able to attend a great event at Black Ops, Fayetteville.
Cryptic City, which was produced by Valkryie Airsoft. I teamed up with the Black Ops home team, The Alphas. The weather was chilly and damp, but that didn’t stop the hundreds of players from having a great time. The game design is based around multiple scoring boxes you need to find and control. With the ability for airstrikes and plenty of tanks to deal with it takes a balance of smarts and firepower to win the event. The game is in three sections. A Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, and then Sunday morning, each around 3 hours long. We played the full field map for the weekend with the scoring boxes spread evenly across that space.
The tan side, the side I was on, started at the south base. We attacked the West side of the map, which has the pipes field, FOB (mining complex for the PB players), Ambush alley, and the Church/ connex city. We were able to take almost the whole side within the first 30 minutes and even push into and control Fishing Village for a short time. While we were doing that, the Green side had full control of a large part of the East side to just outside the CIA. Pretty sure we had a point lead going into lunch break.
After lunch, the producer put all the scoring boxes on the West side of the creek to condense the fight and oh boy, did it work. The green team took full advantage of the new path Black Ops made across the top of the map. When we arrived at the pipes to try for the scoring box, Green was there and waiting. A great gun fight that Green locked us down. They also push right through the FOB area and we were barely holding that ground. We were able to regroup and the rest of the day the fight went back and forth with Green, I’m guessing taking the lead by the end of the day.
Sunday morning, both sides after getting some sleep and Icy Hot for sore muscles, hit the opening horn well. Scoring was more full-field like Saturday morning and we tried to take the same West side as we had the day before. Green was waiting for us at FOB and Ruins. We fought for over an hour before we were able to push them out. Once that happened, we took advantage of the reinsert time to send everyone as hard as possible to push their base. Our “right hook” move allowed us to take everything on the West side of the creek and occupy SAM Site right next to their base. However, they were able to sneak out the East side once again and had control of the whole East side and were equally distant from our base through CIA and on the outside edge of mounds. After trading out with a player at SAM Site I reinserted and found that my teammates had done a side push from Fishing Village and cleared the Green players back to the other side of Range Road. The last hour was a great battle but a stalemate at the location. The game ended in a very close win for the Tan side but it was one of the best fights I have seen since starting airsoft. It was a great event and I will be back for next year for sure.
