January Tier One
We ran our second Tier One Saturday, and it was a hit. With over 70 players taking part we had plenty of shooters to take part in the game design. The mission was to rescue the downed pilot. To accomplish this, you needed to find medical supplies in multiple locations, clear the enemy out of their stronghold, and administer first aid, load the pilot on a stretcher and exfil them and your team to the church, all while under heavy enemy attack.
We divided teams and gave them a briefing on the objectives and things we added since the first Tier One, based on the players’ feedback. Each side had a chance to be the attacker and the defender, with the winners being the attacking team that completed the mission in the shortest amount of time. The winning time was just under 30 minutes.
Next, we took advantage of the early sunset to really focus on the night game. We wanted to add lighting to the fields we used as either an emurion enhancer or as the actual objective. The goal was to allow players with NODS to still have a great advantage but make it make playable for players without NODS. Based on the feedback we got we nailed it.
We used the Fishing Village, Ambush Alley and Pipes fields for the nighttime play in three diferent ways to use the lights and with three different ways to win.
For the Fishing Village, we used LED tiki torches to create an environment that made you feel like you really did come across a real fishing village at night. The game style was a battle to control the village the longest.
For the Ambush Alley game, the objective was the lights. We hid 44 flicker LED tea lights around the field and both sides had to race to collect the most during the timeframe.
Finally, we lit up the pipes field with large sodium lights but shone them in a way to give the whole field an “Abandoned warehouse” vibe and went full TDM for the game design.
It was definitely a hit with the players and the staff who love running the events. We got some great ideas and suggestions from the players on what they would like to see at the next one and we are already working on the game design.
